Tiffy's Puppies Born
March 18, 2009

Kenna's puppies were born on 8/22/10 with the first puppy born at 4:00 am and the last at 6:10 am. The pictures of the puppies on Kenna's 8-22-10 litter were taken when they were about 5 hours old. The puppies were very squirmy when I was taking the pictures, so they are a bit fuzzy. More pictures will follow as the babies get bigger.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are the BEST dog you will ever have in your life. They are extremely loving--especially the males. Cavaliers always want to be with you wherever you are. Cavaliers love to sleep in your lap, beside you and at your feet. However, Cavaliers love to sleep in their crates.

Cavaliers are extremely smart dogs! The best way to train Cavaliers is to catch them doing something, give that "something" a command word and praise them and/or give them a treat -- example -- "Sit. Good girl/boy." Cavaliers love to be praised and rewarded with treats. Just because they are smart, doesn't mean they have common sense. If they see a butterfly, ball, bug, bird, etc., and they are running loose, they will chase after it -- even into a busy street. Always having a Cavalier on a leash or in a fenced area is one of the most important things you can do for him/her.

Cavaliers love their food -- be careful about overfeeding them. Overfeeding Cavaliers is extremely bad for their health. Possible problems from overfeeding can be heart problems, hip problems, joint problems; just to name a few. A good healthy diet is very important. Purchasing dog food from a reputable pet food store is better than purchasing dog food that has a lot of filler in it. Cavaliers can have a delicate stomach, so a dog food that is rich in protein can cause problems.

Have you tried some of the new grain free foods available for dogs? Grain free means more nutrition, less weight gain and less dog waste. There are some great brands out there - I have used Evo (chicken) and Taste of The Wild (salmon). My dogs weigh between 13 lbs and 20 lbs and I feed them about 3/4 cup of food per day. With this diet they haven't gained weight. The dog food might cost a little more, however, you will be feeding them less food and it will go farther; but most importantly, your Cavalier's weight will be maintained. I have also noticed that my dogs' coats are silkier and shinnier.

Why is my Cavalier eating grass? Cavaliers are "grazing dogs" so on occasion they will eat grass - don't be alarmed this is perfectly normal -- be careful what you put on your lawn. My dogs even love to eat my blueberries and strawberries. These are okay for them to eat, however, there are some foods that dogs should not eat – onions which can lead to anemia in dogs, grapes which are toxic to dogs and, of course, chocolate which is also toxic to dogs.

You ask, oh those wonderful new invisible fences. I prefer the old fashioned type of fence, as invisible fences are not my favorite type of fence because:

1. While your dog will get a “zap” and stay in your yard, it doesn’t stop other animals from coming onto your property and attacking your dog or preventing people from seeing your Cavalier and easily taking them.

2. Then again, will your Cavalier stay in the yard? There is always the chance that the dog will be so excited at seeing something go by, that they will run right past the fence and keep on going even though they have been shocked.

Additional information regarding Cavaliers will be added in the future, please come back and visit us often!! In the meantime, check out the pictures of our dogs and puppies. I am sure you will enjoy them.
